Breast reconstruction
Breast reconstruction surgery is now an option available for most women following mastectomy for breast cancer. Studies have shown reconstruction greatly improves the emotional and physical well being of patients. Many women are unaware of the opportunity for this type of surgery, often suffering in silence, leading to depression.
Using new surgical techniques, we can now create natural looking breast mounds and nipples. The breast mound can be reconstructed by using the patient’s own tissue from areas such as the abdomen (tummy) or with the use of a tissue expander followed by a breast implant. The final stage involves the formation of the nipple and areola. Following surgery, most women find they can wear almost all types of clothing with complete confidence.
