Anti Wrinkle Treatments Sydney

About the treatment

Alongside the normal ageing process, our daily facial expressions tend to leave their mark.

Shape’s philosophy is to nurture, protect and maximise the potential of each individual’s natural beauty, while utilising anti-wrinkle treatments to help smooth areas of the face.

Through a series of anti-wrinkle treatments and a personalised treatment plan, anti-wrinkle treatments can provide a natural, rejuvenated appearance without compromising your skin’s motion.

If you are contemplating an anti-wrinkle treatment, our cosmetic practitioners have the experience and aesthetic ability to ensure you are never over-treated (an approach which can result in the all too common ‘frozen face’ appearance).

The most common facial areas for anti wrinkle treatments include:

  • crows feet
  • forehead and frown lines
  • eyebrow lift
  • eyelid droopiness

Anti wrinkle treatments can also be used to address other types of facial concerns and functional issues, including but not limited to:

  • gummy smile
  • chin dimpling and wrinkling (Peau d’Orange)
  • facial slimming
  • teeth grinding and clenching
  • temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ)
  • excessive sweating in the armpits (Hyperhidrosis)

TYPES OF WRINKLES & TREATMENTS

Dynamic wrinkles appear as a result of natural facial expressions in response to emotions of joy, sadness, fear, worry or surprise. When facial muscles contract, the skin over those muscles stretches to accommodate.  These wrinkles are noticed most when you smile, laugh, frown, cry or during moments of deep concentration. If untreated, dynamic wrinkles eventually become static, which are most commonly the result of facial movements, static forces such as gravity, and chronological ageing.

Static wrinkles result from a loss of the skin’s elasticity caused by gravity, the loss of fat and collagen. These types of lines are visible regardless of muscle action and tend to develop over time. Gel treatments are typically used to address static wrinkles. In addition to smoothing out dreaded lines (also known as smoker’s lines) and erasing cheek folds, this treatment can also be useful for replacing lost volume and re-plumping facial tissue.

What to expect from Anti Wrinkle Treatment

Anti-wrinkle treatments temporarily block the impulse signal between nerve endings and the facial muscles while weakening the muscle that produces facial lines. The treatment relaxes and lifts the tissue, softening the look of lines to display a subtly tighter and smoother appearance. Over time, anti-wrinkle treatments will serve to relax muscle movement and alleviate facial lines. In some cases, frowning habits can be erased entirely.

What to expect from the procedure:

  • Procedure time: 10 – 20 minutes
  • Downtime required: minimal to no downtime.
  • Results duration: 2 – 6 months

How long do anti-wrinkle treatments last?

The duration of the results of anti-wrinkle treatments vary from person to person, but typically last for 3-4 months. The results may last longer in some people, and shorter in others. Factors that can affect the duration of results include the strength of the muscles being treated, the amount of product used, and the individual’s metabolism.

Post care treatment and expectations

After your anti-wrinkle treatment, you may experience some mild side effects, such as bruising, redness, or swelling. These side effects are usually temporary and will resolve on their own within a few days.

Is there anything I should avoid after my treatment?

There are a few things you should avoid after your anti-wrinkle treatments:

  • Strenuous activity: Avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours after your treatment. This includes activities that raise your heart rate or blood pressure.
  • Rubbing or massaging the treatment area: Rubbing or massaging the treatment area can spread the product and cause the results to be uneven.
  • Applying heat or cold to the treatment area: Applying heat or cold to the treatment area can also spread the product and cause the results to be uneven.
  • Drinking alcohol: Drinking alcohol can increase the risk of bruising and swelling.

If you have any concerns about your treatment, please contact your practitioner.

Pairing anti wrinkle treatments for optimal results

Gel treatments and anti wrinkle treatments are often used together to achieve a more comprehensive result. The two treatments work together synergistically to minimise lines and wrinkles while restoring volume lost over time.

Total Face Enhancement

The ageing process encompasses all parts of the face. In line with Shape’s vision, a total face enhancement addresses the face as a whole, rather than a collection of separate parts. Pioneered by Dr Steven Liew, Specialist Plastic Surgeon, this treatment embraces the facial features in unity.

FAQs

When should I start anti-wrinkle treatment?

  • The best time to start anti-wrinkle treatment is before the formation of static lines on your face. These are the lines that are visible even when your face is relaxed.

Do anti-wrinkle treatments prevent future wrinkles appearing in treated areas?

  • Anti-wrinkle treatments cannot prevent future wrinkles from appearing. However, they can help to slow down the formation of new wrinkles by reducing the amount of muscle activity in the treated area.

How many treatments will I need?

  • The number of treatments you will need will vary depending on the severity of your wrinkles and your individual response to treatment. Most people need to have their anti-wrinkle treatment repeated every 3-4 months.

Will I still be able to make facial expressions after receiving anti-wrinkle treatment?

  • Yes, you will still be able to make facial expressions after receiving anti-wrinkle treatment. However, the muscles in the treated area will not be able to contract as strongly, so your expressions may not be as pronounced.
