Lipoplasty (Liposuction) Sydney

About the treatment

Even after reaching your desired weight, isolated pockets of fat can remain around different areas of the body. While it is crucial to maintain a healthy lifestyle, these stubborn subcutaneous fat pockets are often unresponsive to regular exercise or diet. They may require a degree of medical intervention to be removed.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction (also called lipoplasty, lipectomy and liposculpture) is a body contouring procedure designed to remove excess fat deposits from the body permanently.

While it isn’t a weight-loss treatment, it does serve to improve the contours and proportions of the body such as:

  • abdomen
  • buttocks and thighs
  • arms
  • neck
  • under the chin

This suction method can target nearly any body area affected by excess amounts of localised fat—and can treat multiple sites in a single operation.

What is Liposculpture?

While it is a detailed and innovative procedure, Liposculpture draws on standard liposuction techniques. However, it incorporates an advanced method of moulding the skin and underlying tissue.

Who is a candidate for Liposuction?

It’s essential to understand if you’re a good candidate for liposuction before considering the procedure. A good candidate will have the following:

A healthy weight: Ideally, you should be within 30% of your ideal weight and have maintained a stable weight for at least 6 months. Liposuction is not a weight-loss solution and won’t treat obesity.
Good skin elasticity: Liposuction works best with firm, elastic skin that can retract and conform after fat removal. Loose skin might not achieve optimal results.
Localised fat deposits: Liposuction is ideal for addressing stubborn fat pockets that resist diet and exercise, such as in the abdomen, thighs, arms, or chin.

Our Specialist Plastic Surgeons at Shape Clinic can assess your individual circumstances, discuss your goals and expectations, and determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure.

Results

Lipoplasty (Liposuction or Liposculpture) is not a weight loss surgery, so it is vital to maintain a healthy lifestyle to preserve the physical effects of the treatment and avoid any uneven distribution of fat. Keeping a regular exercise and nutritional eating regime helps you experience the full benefits.

  • Vary depending on the body type and habits of the patient.
  • Lighten the body and potentially improve comfort and posture
  • Increase physical activity

What to expect from Liposuction

The procedure varies depending on your needs and targeted areas. Dr Liew will work with you to create a tailored treatment plan based on your body type in your initial consultation and results will continue to settle for up to one month after the procedure.

Rather than just suctioning fat out of the body, the liposculpting technique allows Specialist Plastic Surgeon, Dr Steven Liew to mould the skin and underlying tissue.

  • Procedure time: 1 – 3 hours (depends on the number of areas require treatment)
  • Downtime required: 2 – 7 days.

Liposuction Recovery and Aftercare

Recovery is crucial for optimal results and minimising risks. Here’s what you need to know about recovering comfortably and ensuring a smooth post-surgery journey:

Pain Management: You can expect some pain and discomfort initially. Your surgeon will prescribe medication to manage this effectively.

Compression Garments: You’ll likely wear special compression garments continuously for several weeks. These garments help reduce swelling, bruising, and support the new body contours.

Rest and Activity: Take ample rest for the first few days, allowing your body to heal. Gradually increase activity, starting with light walking as advised by your surgeon. Strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided for several weeks.

Incision Care: Keep the incision sites clean and dry following your surgeon’s instructions.

Pairing this treatment with Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)

Liposuction is often sought to remove large pockets of fat from the abdominal area. This treatment is often combined with an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck procedure), which serves to restructure the body’s midsection by removing pockets of fat from the abdomen and tightening the area.

When combined, the two treatments coordinate to remove larger pockets of fat, restructure the torso and redefine the waistline.
