Important:
Yes. A consultation allows your practitioner to assess your goals, medical history and suitability, explain options (including not progressing with treatment), outline risks and recovery, and provide an individualised plan.
Sometimes for lower-risk, non-surgical treatments. For surgical procedures, there are mandatory cooling-off periods and additional safety steps, so treatment will not occur on the same day as a consultation. Your practitioner will advise what is appropriate for you.
At Shape Clinic, your safety and informed decision-making are our priorities. All surgical and non-surgical medical aesthetic procedures offered at Shape Clinic are intended for adults aged 18 years and over.
These treatments are not suitable for minors. Shape Clinic does not provide cosmetic medical procedures to anyone under the age of 18.
A GP referral is necessary for surgical procedures. It is not usually required for non-surgical medical aesthetic treatments, but we may liaise with your GP with your consent if this improves safety.
All surgical procedures are performed by Specialist Plastic Surgeons, Dr Steven Liew MED0001151298 (FRACS), Dr Ania Smialkowski MED0001668109 (FRACS) and Dr Henry Shepherd MED0001860545 (FRACS). Non-Surgical Medical Aesthetic, Laser and Skin Treatments will be performed by, or under the supervision of, registered health practitioners with appropriate training. You will be told who will perform your treatment and their credentials during your consultation.
We may offer telehealth for information and follow-up discussions where clinically appropriate. A face-to-face assessment is always required before any procedure.

While the terms “Cosmetic Surgeon” and “Plastic Surgeon” are sometimes used interchangeably, they refer to different qualifications. Dr Steven Liew FRACS MED0001151298, Dr Ania Smialkowski FRACS MED0001668109 and Dr Henry Shepherd FRACS MED0001860545 are Specialist Plastic Surgeons, recognised by the Medical Board of Australia and Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). Surgery is a medical procedure that carries inherent risks and potential complications. While advancements in surgical techniques and healthcare standards have improved safety, it remains important for individuals to make informed decisions and understand both the benefits and risks before proceeding with any surgical procedure. Your surgeon will provide a personalised risk discussion and written information. Risks can include, and are not limited to scarring, bruising and swelling, pain, infection, hematoma and seroma, anaesthesia risks, nerve sensitivity or damage, cosmetic dissatisfaction and rarely, mortality,
While we strive to provide accurate and up-to-date information, individual results from treatments may vary. Any medical or surgical procedure carries risks, and a comprehensive consultation with a qualified healthcare professional is essential to determine whether a treatment is appropriate for your specific needs. We strongly recommend seeking a personal consultation to assess your individual circumstances and discussing treatment options in detail. A second opinion from another appropriately qualified health practitioner is also advisable before proceeding with surgery or medical procedures. The information provided is general in nature and for educational purposes only. It should not be construed as medical advice or a guarantee of outcome.
Recovery times vary depending on the procedure itself and the individual. Your surgeon will provide a detailed recovery plan alongside your surgical nurse which will include information around activity restrictions, scar management protocols and follow-up schedules. Please feel free to discuss this with your Surgeon.

A face‑to‑face consultation with an authorised prescriber is required each time a prescription is issued. We do not offer email, phone or text based prescriptions.
You’ll receive verbal and plain‑language written information covering: procedure steps, recovery and care, risks (including person‑specific risks), alternatives (including conservative options), costs and maintenance. For medical aesthetic treatments, your consent records the medicine type and quantity used.
At Shape Clinic, you will have the chance to review images before agreeing to their use in advertising. Consent for advertising images is separate from procedure consent. We value patient confidentiality. Images are stored on secure clinic systems (not personal devices). You may withdraw consent later and we will stop using your images where possible; you’ll receive a copy of your signed consent.
At Shape Clinic, we do not provide free or discounted procedures for promotion (including to influencers), and we do not promote third‑party loan or payment schemes as part of a procedure. We also do not offer add‑on products/services that could act as incentives to seek a cosmetic procedure.
You will receive verbal and written instructions tailored to your procedure. This may be in relation to homecare products, skincare, wound care, scar management plans, activities and their limits, sun protection and follow-up appointments. Please follow them closely and do not hesitate to contact us if anything concerns you.
Timing depends on the procedure you have undergone and your role. Your clinician will provide individual guidance during your consultation and at review.
It is important to follow your practitioner guidance. Only use the products recommended and follow the directions closely. Please ask questions if you are unsure.
Costs are provided after a clinical assessment because they depend on your diagnosis, complexity, product/device requirements and follow-up needs. You’ll receive an itemised quote alongside financial consent forms before you proceed with treatment.
We do not offer inducements that could encourage unnecessary aesthetic procedures.
Aesthetic procedures are generally not covered by Medicare. Some medically-necessary procedures may have item numbers or partial coverage attached. This is something that may be discussed during the consultation. We will always provide the necessary clinical documentation for you to discuss with your insurer.
Informed consent means you understand the proposed procedure, the alternatives (including not having treatment), the benefits, the risks, the total costs and your recovery. You will have time to ask questions and decide without pressure.
We follow Australian privacy and health-record laws. Your information is stored securely, used only for your care and administration, and shared with other providers only with your consent or when required by law. See our Privacy Policy
